November 17, 2009
GOSHEN, Ind. – The Goshen College women’s basketball team got back on the right track as they knocked off visiting Trinity Christian College 69-52 Tuesday night.
The Maple Leafs shot a sparkling 49% from the field and forced 16 Troll turnovers in the first half as they sped out to a 37-18 halftime lead, which proved to be insurmountable.
After the team’s traded baskets to open the game, Goshen went on an 11-0 run sparked by 3-pointers by freshman Jenna Rusmisel and Erica Yost. Trinity Christian would cut the deficit back to five on several occasions in the half, but a 7-0 streak and a 8-0 run to close the half gave the Leafs the sizable halftime advantage.
A Rusmisel jumper off the second-half tip gave Goshen a 21-point lead and despite shooting only 38% in the second half, the Leafs would never let the lead get less than 14 points.
Junior Cassie Greives got her second double-double of the season as she scored a team-high 14 points to go with 11 rebounds. Senior Lindsay Gangloff also registered 14 points, including 10 in the first half, while junior Erica Yost had 13 points and seven assists.
