December 2, 2009
GOSHEN, Ind. – The Goshen College Maple Leafs Facebook Fan Page (#GCMapleLeafs) was created to give student-athletes, fans, and families a way to interact with each other and receive up-to-date information on scores and stories about GC Athletics.
Since the page was officially launched late in 2008, well over 500 fans from more than 20 countires have joined our community and received updates on GC Athletics.
As we approach our one year anniversary on facebook, we are honoring one of our most active Facebook members with our GCMapleLeafs Facebook Fan of the Month award.
Gerrie Banister of Indianapolis has been named the second ever GCMapleLeafs Fan of the Month after being a consistent reader and contributor to the official Facebook page of Goshen College Athletics.
Gerrie’s daughter, Samantha Hawk, is a freshman on the Maple Leaf women’s basketball team. Along with many of her family members, Banister has kept close tabs on Hawk and the rest of the Goshen College athletic program’s since her daughter signed with head coach Steve Wiktorowski.
“I appreciate the Fan of the Month honor and look forward to reading about future success at Goshen,” Banister said.
While she is a relatively new member to the Facebook world, Clara L Bontrager is a consistent presence on the GCMapleLeafs Fan Page with comments on recent games she has attended and any show of support she can give.
Along with husband Mark and son John, the Bontrager family farm in located in Shipshewana, Ind. The Bontrager’s interest in Goshen Athletics peaked beginning seven years ago when grandson Jesse Woodworth began his career with the Maple Leaf soccer team. It continued through his standout career and right into current senior Luke Woodworth’s as the brothers have been a part of some of the most successful teams in program history.
Bontrager’s link to Maple Leaf Athletics goes back a generation more, however, as son-in-law Todd Woodworth was also a Goshen soccer standout. Currently the boys soccer coach at Northridge High School, Todd married another Goshen graduate, Diane.
“We are interested in the outcome of all the sports Goshen College offers and enjoy reading about them on Facebook,” Bontrager said through email. “Thank you for this honor! I appreciate it!”
We appreciate Clara and all our Facebook fans. If you are not already, join the Maple Leafs on Facebook by becoming a fan.
