Goshen College Baseball Facility

baseballLocation: Immediately southeast of the Roman Gingerich Recreation-Fitness Center
Built: 1950’s
Capacity: 300 in bleachers
Dimensions: 330′ down the lines, 398′ in power allies, 380′ to straight-away centerfield.

Originally built in the 1950’s, the Goshen College Baseball Complex has undergone many improvements throughout the years. Pine trees planted in the 80’s provide an intimate feel along with a valuable wind break behind the backstop and dugouts as well as an excellent hitting background beyond center field.

Around the same time, former coach Devon Hoffman also constructed the current press box and the batting tunnel, which features an all-weather turf floor.

In 2006, the infield was resurfaced making for one of the finest playing surfaces around, while a full-infield tarp was purchased at that time to help protect it. The field has unique dimensions of 330 feet down the lines, 398 feet in the power allies, and 380 feet to straight-away centerfield.

“Our playing field has matured into a nice little facility and our players work extremely hard after every practice and game to keep the mound and plate areas in top condition,” says head coach Josh Keister.

When the Maple Leafs cannot be outdoors due to the weather, they have the Roman Gingerich Recreation and Fitness Center to rely upon. Three full-size basketball courts allow plenty of room for long toss and the option of setting up a full-size infield. The gym also has two 80-foot long batting cages that drop down from the ceiling. The cages are big enough for pitchers to throw live to hitters from indoor portable mounds.

Our playing field has matured into a nice facility and our playing surface is in outstanding condition, especially the infield. We are lucky to have such exceptional facilities.”
