INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The women's tennis team clinched a spot in the league tournament and defeated Grace for the first time since 2006 with a 5-2 win in Indianapolis on Tuesday. Goshen lost to Marian 4-0.

The Maple Leafs had their fewest points dropped against Grace since an 8-1 win in 2004. This is the first season since 2006 that Goshen has recorded multiple wins in conference.

GC captured wins from no. 2 through no. 5 singles against the Lancers. Sude Aytekin continued to dominate by defeating Lydia Ruegsegger 6-3, 6-2. Another first-year, Carmen Aliaga, had an impressive showing as well, taking down Kiersten Martin in no. 3 singles 6-3, 6-0.

Goshen won the team point 2-0 with Aytekin and Szofia Kallai winning 6-4 in no. 1 doubles and Aliaga and Meaghan Godzisz winning 6-0 in no. 3 doubles.

Sude Aytekin and Szofia Kallai led Katharina Bopst and Lisa Koerner 5-3 in no. 1 doubles against Marian, but the match was only played until the Knights clinched the win due to unspecified time constraints. Marian won the team point 2-0 and moved to 6-1 overall this season.

Goshen has clinched the eight seed in the Crossroads League tournament, which is the team's first berth in the modern Crossroads League tournament that began in 2011. The quarterfinals will be on Tuesday, September 20 with the semifinals on the 22nd and the finals on the 24th.

Goshen faces non-conference opponent Judson on Friday, September 16, at 2:00 pm at home for Senior Day.
