FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Maple Leafs men's and women's tennis teams both suffered defeat on Labor Day as Indiana Tech hosted its season opener. The men lost to the Warriors 5-2, and the women fell 7-0.
 
The Goshen men earned a point from Filippo Gallo after his 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Juan Avellaneda in no. 2 singles and another from Insee Akarapan against Phil Labbé in no. 6 singles. Matija Margetic and Pedro Scattolon defeated the combo of Phil Labbé and Michel Zobel in no. 2 doubles 6-4. Kevin Bollmann won his first set against Lee Chan 6-3 but lost the second and the match tiebreaker.
 
Rashne Arunkumar narrowly edged out Szofia Kallai in the women's no. 1 singles, 7-6(4), 0-6, (11-9). Kallai and Carmen Aliaga were close with a doubles win, but were defeated by Thaina Carvalho and Abigail Simms 6-4.
 
Goshen is at home for the first time this season on Wednesday, September 7, against Spring Arbor at 9:30 am and Indiana Wesleyan at 4:30 pm.
