GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen men's tennis team competed for the first time at home this season on Wednesday and came up with a 5-2 win over Spring Arbor and a massive 4-3 upset over #3 Indiana Wesleyan.

The Leafs had lost the past eight contests against IWU, scoring one combined point in the previous four matchups. Goshen last beat the Wildcats on September 6, 2016.

Mario Gomez and Insee Akarapan cruised to easy victories at singles no. 5 and no. 6, respectively. Gomez won 6-1, 6-1 while Akarapan won 6-2, 6-0. Filippo Gallo won at no. 2 singles 3-6, 6-3, (10-6).

Goshen's fourth point came from doubles. Akarapan and Gallo defeated Alex Serwatka and Trey Thixton 7-6(5) in no. 1 doubles, and Kevin Bollmann and Mario Gomez took down Riley Fuqua and Connor Murphy 6-1 in no. 3 doubles to win the team point 2-1.

Earlier that morning, the Leafs took care of Spring Arbor. Goshen is 8-4 against the Cougars since 2013.

Pedro Scattolon secured two wins - at no. 3 singles over Bret Bentley (6-2, 6-4) and then at no. 2 doubles with Matija Margetic. The pair defeated Bret Bentley and Brendan Bentley 6-2.

Kevin Bollmann defeated Caleb Kaytar quickly in no. 4 singles (6-1, 6-1) and combined with Mario Gomez to win no. 3 doubles 6-3. Goshen won the team point 2-1.

Filippo Gallo won in no. 2 singles (6-1, 6-4) and Insee Akarapan won at no. 6 singles (6-3, 2-6, (10-7)).

With the wins, Goshen moved to 3-2 and 3-1 in the Crossroads League. The Leafs are at Saint Francis this Saturday, September 10. Goshen faces the Cougars at 9:00 am before meeting Bethel at 1:00 pm.
