INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Goshen fall tennis season ended on Tuesday as the men and women lost their quarterfinal matches after making it into the Crossroads League Tournament. They both played at Marian, with the men losing 6-1 and the women 7-0. The Marian men are receiving votes in the NAIA coaches poll, and the women are #23.
The Knights won the women's #3 and then #2 doubles matches to win the team point. #1 doubles went unfinished, but the Marian team led
Blanka Bodo and
Szofia Kallai from Goshen 5-3.
Sude Aytekin was the closest to getting a point for the Leafs, but she fell in #1 singles 7-5, 6-3. Kallai won seven games over two sets in #2 singles, and Bodo won five games over two sets in #3 singles.
Filippo Gallo earned the Maple Leaf men a point in #1 singles. He won a close first set against Borja Delgado 7-5 before blowing past the competition 6-0 in the second set.
Matija Margetic took the first set in #2 singles for GC 6-3 but lost the following two sets by the same score. The Knights won in #1 and #2 doubles. #3 doubles was not completed, but Marian led the Goshen team of
Mario Gomez and
Brandon Lomas 4-3.
The Goshen men's team finished the fall season with a 3-7 overall and 3-5 Crossroads League records. The women ended with a 4-7 record and a 3-5 mark in conference.
