GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen men's and women's tennis teams combined to win 29 of the 30 sets they played in on Saturday morning against Saint Francis. Both teams swept the Cougars 7-0.
The women have swept USF in two straight matches after losing the previous 12 meetings. The men have not lost a point against the Cougars since 2017 - six consecutive sweeps.
The women won the doubles point 3-0.
Morgan Priebe and
Naomi Lapp Klassen had a particularly emphatic 6-1 win in #3 doubles. None of the 15 sets that the women played were closer than a 6-3 score. Priebe and Lapp Klassen only allowed their singles opponents to win a set each at #5 and #6 singles.
Blanka Bodo improved her singles record to 6-1 this year with a 6-2, 6-1 win at #3 singles. In their previous match, Goshen was swept by Bethel 7-0. Now, it was the Maple Leafs doing the sweeping.
The men's only loss came at #3 doubles, a narrow 7-5 score. With
Matija Margetic and
Pedro Scattolon's win at #2 doubles, the duo improved their doubles record to 4-3 this season.
Insee Akarapan dominated in #5 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0.
Brandon Lomas won at #6 singles 6-1, 6-0. Margetic won in a shortened #2 singles, 6-0, 2-0.
Filippo Gallo won in #1 singles and is 4-3 in singles this year.
The men have a record of 2-4 and 2-3 in the Crossroads League, while the women are at 3-4 and 2-3 in the conference. Goshen is at Mount Vernon Nazarene on Tuesday, September 19, at 2:00 pm.
