SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - The Goshen men's tennis team secured their first win of the season at Spring Arbor, taking all the points from #1 through #5 singles. The women won the doubles point and two singles matches but narrowly lost 4-3. The men have won five of the last seven matches against the Cougars.

Matija Margetic and Pedro Scattolon dominated in #2 doubles for Goshen with a 6-0 score, but SAU won the other two matchups 6-3 and 6-4. However, the Leafs were the much better team in singles competition. Margetic, Mario Gomez and Insee Akarapan won in two sets, while Filippo Gallo and Scattolon picked up wins in three sets. Brandon Lomas lost in three sets at #6 singles.

The singles wins were the first of the season for Akarapan, Gomez, Margetic and Scattolon. Margetic and Scattolon are 2-1 in doubles so far this year.

The women got their first wins in doubles competition this season, and also won the team point. Szofia Kallai and Blanka Bodo won 7-5 in #1 doubles and Sude Aytekin and Meaghan Godzisz won by the same score in #2 doubles. Aytekin won 6-2, 6-3 in #1 singles and Bodo won 6-3, 6-1 in #3 singles. Aytekin is 2-1 in singles and Bodo is a perfect 3-0 in singles this year. However, Spring Arbor won the other four singles points which was enough to squeak out a close win.

The three points is the most Goshen has scored against the Cougars since 2010, when they lost 6-3 back when they played out of nine points instead of seven. The last time GC scored more than three against SAU was a 5-4 win in 2006.

Goshen is at Purdue Northwest on Saturday, September 9, at 12:30 pm. They will also face Judson while there, with those matches starting at 4:30 pm.
