Riley, Muzyk lead teams at C300 Western Shootout

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Goshen College bowling teams competed at the C300 Western Shootout, a tier II tournament, in Indianapolis on Saturday and Sunday. The men came in 25th of 31 and the women were 17th of 23.

Men - 25th of 31
The men were in 30th place after the first two regular games. But by the time the six games finished on Saturday, they had improved to 26th place and 25th place after the 16 baker games on Sunday. With 8,824 pins, the Leafs finished ahead of Grace's 8,383 pins in 30th place. Marian came in fifth. Goshen's average score across the 16 baker games was 198.13. Goshen's third baker game was the best, with a 257 score. The Leafs had two regular games where the top five scorers averaged over 200 pins each.

Brendan Riley had his highest average score of the season, averaging a score of 206.5 across the six regular games. Five of the six were a score of 203 or higher with his top game at 221. He finished in 67th out of 339 bowlers. Cameron Fedenis had scores in five regular games and four were over 200. He placed 148th. Andrew Jackson had a 246 score and bowled in two games. Goshen's third highest scorer was Nik Bressert, averaging 193.2 over five games. Parker Lovejoy came in 214th and had his highest average over the last three competitions at 183. Zachary Gage wasn't far behind at 223rd with a season-high average of 168.25.

Women - 17th of 23
The women were in 21st place after the first regular game but jumped to 14th with a much improved 967 score compared to the 751 pins in the first game. They settled into 18th place at the end of day one and moved up a spot to 17th after Sunday's baker games. Goshen totaled 7,915 pins, better than Grace's 7,536 pins in 20th. Marian finished fifth. Goshen averaged a score of 173.5 in the baker games, topping out at 199 in the seventh game.

Rebekah Muzyk came in 37th out of 183 participants. She averaged 191.3 pins per game and had three scores of over 200 - at 226, 209 and 216. Her highest score among the five games at the Midwest Collegiate Championships was 202. Lily Kelley was in the top five for all six games as well and averaged 167.83, good for 65th place. Guliana Castiglione had the third-highest individual total for Goshen, coming in 109th and bowling to a 214 score in one of her four games. Hayden Smith was in 118th and Bailey Friars rounded out the top five in 124th.

Trine swept the competition for men and women at the varsity and junior varisty levels. Goshen is at the Boilermaker Classic on Saturday, October 26, at 2:00 pm. Then on Sunday at 9:00 am they will compete in the Boilermaker Baker Shootout.
