SANDUSKY, Ohio - Brendan Riley had a stellar performance, making the All-Tournament team, as the Goshen men's bowling team placed sixth of 11 and the women came in seventh of 13 at the Falcon Classic hosted by Bowling Green State University.
Men - 6th of 11
The men finished with 6,031 pins, 24 ahead of Lourdes. From the Crossroads League, Spring Arbor came in first (6,494 pins) and Indiana Wesleyan in third (6,145 pins). Riley bowled an impressive 238 in his first game, but was just getting started. He topped it with a 247 in the second game and a team season-best 279 in the third game. Before today, the previous best was
Parker Lovejoy's 266 from the second regular game at the Leatherneck Classic. Riley's collegiate best had been a 257 from the Boilermaker Classic. After a 217 score in his fourth and final game, Riley finished the day with all four games above his season average of 199.0, which boosted his average up to a 205.8. He finished third out of 64 varsity bowlers, making the All-Tournament team.
Parker Lovejoy had a strong showing with a 258 score in his second game and coming in 20th overall.
Zachary Gage came in 34th with two games over 210 pins.
DaVeon Welch also improved his season average and finished 39th.
Nik Bressert came in 55th and
Hayden Grindle in 57th. They each scored in two regular games each.
The junior varsity team finished second of four, behind Rochester and ahead of Spring Arbor and Bowling Green.
Michael Ramirez led the way for the JV men, coming in seventh of 22.
Women - 7th of 13
The women's team knocked down 4,825 pins, just 19 behind Indiana Wesleyan. The Wildcats came in sixth and the Spring Arbor Cougars won with 5,567 pins.
Kami Kimes was Goshen's top finisher, coming in 16th of 78 varsity bowlers. Her third game score of 202 was just one off of her season best. Kimes' season average improved from 161.5 pins to 165.3.
Kelsey Badger totaled 618 pins and finished 30th while
Rebekah Muzyk hit 611 pins and came in 32nd.
Guliana Castiglione was 55th with three games played and
Bailey Friars made the team's top five and finished in 57th with three games played as well.
The junior varsity women came in fourth out of five.
Abigail Kenestrick was the team's top placer, coming in fifth of 28 JV bowlers. She knocked down 211 pins in her best game, topping her previous season best of 191 pins in a game.
Goshen is at the Warrior Classic in Flint, Michigan next Saturday, November 23, at 8:00 am. The tournament is hosted by Rochester Christian University.
