Sofolahan and Hazen break school record in their first meet as Maple Leafs

The 300 meters record was last broken in 2004

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Two Goshen College indoor track and field school records were broken on Friday at the Blue-Gold Invite hosted by the University of Notre Dame, and they were both broken by athletes competing in their first meet as Maple Leafs.

Sam Sofolahan ran a 22.20 time in the men's 200 meters, coming in third out of 33 runners. Danial Murphy also had a strong performance in the same race, coming in 8th of 33 at 22.62 seconds. The previous school record was set in 2022 by Samuel Stoner-Eby, who had a time of 22.32 seconds. Sofolahan is a freshman from Indianapolis who competed at Ben Davis High School and holds their indoor school record for the 60-meter dash.

Ty Hazen ran the 300 meters in 36.14 seconds, coming in 15th of 28. He beat Daniel Constantine's school record time of 37.34 seconds set in 2004. Hazen is a freshman from Northridge High School where he was an all-conference athlete and set a school record.

Murphy also ran the 60 meters and came in tenth of 43. Freshman Detroit Walker finished third of 16 in the men's 60-meter hurdles at 8.59 seconds.

The women were represented by Jaylah Leggett and Caoimhe Farrell at the meet. Leggett came in seventh of 28 in the women's 200 meters and Farrell placed 16th of 22 in the 60-meter hurdles.

Goshen is at the Mastodon Opener tomorrow, December 7, against Purdue Fort Wayne and Taylor. Heat sheets can be found on the schedule page. Field events begin at 11:00 am.
