Leggett breaks long jump school record at Mastodon Opener

The previous mark was set by Maria Maldonado in 2022

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - After two men's school records were broken on Friday at Notre Dame, Jaylah Leggett broke the first school record for the women's team on Saturday as the indoor track & field teams competed at the Mastodon Opener.

Leggett ran a 7.98 time in the prelims to qualify for the finals. Then she ran a 7.91 time, beating the previous record of 7.96 seconds set in 2022 by Maria Maldonado. Leggett is a sophomore.

In the men's 60 meters, Danial Murphy placed second of 12 in the prelims to qualify for the final. He won the final in 6.97 seconds, just two-hundredths of a second from tying his school record. Detroit Walker won the men's 60-meter hurdles in 8.54 seconds. The freshman was nine-hundredths of a second away from tying that school record.

Ty Hazen was sixth of 15 in the men's 200 meters and Kayla Gibson was fifth of nine in the women's race. Hazen also was second of three in the long jump. Kalabe Williams was sixth of 12 in the men's 60 meters and Cassius Coleman placed second of four in the high jump. Liam Shaw was fourth of eight in the shot put for the men and Abigail Aldrich was third of five for the women. In the weight throw, Kaitlyn Johnson came in second of seven for the women and Caroline Lamb placed fourth.
