INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Men's tennis ended a four-match win streak to start the season and women's tennis ended a two-match win streak in Indy on Saturday. The #24 Marian men beat Goshen 5-2 and the #19 Marian women won by the same score.
Men - #24 Marian 5, Goshen 2
Goshen won in #2 doubles with
Matija Margetic and
Timo Novak's 6-3 win, but Marian won the team point 2-1. Margetic and Novak claimed Goshen's two points with singles wins as well. Margetic lost the first but came back to win his second and third sets. Novak won in straight sets, both by 6-4 scores. Margetic and Novak are both 5-0 in singles so far this season. Last season, no one on the team had better than a 3-2 mark after their first five singles matches in Crossroads League play. In doubles, Margetic and Novak have won three straight.
Women - #19 Marian 5, Goshen 2
Marian snagged wins at #1 and #3 doubles, and #2 doubles wasn't finished. Goshen's wins came at #1 and #2 singles. Like Margetic, Bodo came down from one set down to win in three against Yasmin Imamniyazova. Bodo is 5-0 in #1 singles to start the year. Dotsenko won 6-3, 6-1 in #2 doubles and improves to a 4-1 singles record this year. The Goshen women had been shutout in their previous eight matchups with Marian, being outscored in that timeframe 58-0. The last time the Leafs won two points against the Knights was in 2008.
The Goshen men are 4-1 and the women are 3-2. They are at Indiana Wesleyan on Monday, September 16, at 2:00 pm. The IWU women are ranked #15 but are off to a 2-3 start this year. The Goshen women have never beaten IWU since 2006. Indiana Wesleyan's men are 1-4.
