MARION, Ind. - Over their three days at the ITA Regional Tournament, the Goshen men's and women's teams had numerous singles and doubles teams advance through the brackets as they represented the Maple Leafs. Timo Novak, Blanka Bodo and Uliana Dotsenko set some Goshen firsts.

Novak became the first Goshen tennis player to make it to the semifinals in the men's singles main draw. The doubles team of Danny Boussom and Martim Cafe lost in the doubles final in 2008, but this was a first on the singles side. Similarly, Bodo and Dotsenko advanced to the semifinals in the women's doubles main draw, also a program first.

To get to the semis, Novak beat Grace's #1 singles player Pablo Gregoria, who was the #3 seed of the 64-person field. Novak won that match 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the semifinal before losing to the #2 seed, Lecas Perez of UNOH, 2-6, 6-4, 8-10. Individually, Bodo made it to the main draw quarterfinals of women's singles until losing to Grace's #1 singles player on the women's side, Jimena Ramirez Llorens, the #3 seed. In the doubles main draw round of 16, Bodo and Dotsenko defeated the #2 seed from Bethel 9-8 in a breaker. In the semis, the Leafs lost to the #3 seed team from Indiana Wesleyan.

Goshen returns for the last two Crossroads League matches before tournament time next week. GC is at Huntington on Tuesday, September 24, at 4:00 pm.
