GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen tennis teams both lost to Grace at home on Thursday, as the teams played until a men's and women's team had both clinched the win with the conference tournament looming. The Grace women won 5-2 and the men won 4-0.
The Goshen men will likely be the #4 seed hosting Bethel in the Crossroads League tournament and the women will likely be the #6 seed playing at Grace.
Women - Grace 5, Goshen 2
Uliana Dotsenko and
Ariadna Otin O'Callaghan snagged a 6-2 win in #2 doubles and Grace won in #3 doubles. The #1 doubles match finished last, but Grace prevailed in a 6-4 win to take the point.
Dotsenko and Otin O'Callaghan proceeded to win their singles matchups. Both of them are 2-0 in both singles and doubles in the last two matches. They both won in straight sets. Dotsenko is 5-3 in doubles and 6-2 in singles this year. Otin O'Callaghan is 3-3 in doubles and 3-4 in singles.
Men - Grace 4, Goshen 0
Timo Novak and
Matija Margetic both improved their doubles record to 4-4 this season by winning at the #2 spot, 6-3. The Lancers won the other two matchups to take the doubles point.
The visitors won in #1, #3 and #5 singles, which was all they needed to get to the four points that clinched the win.
Bruno Ferrera was leading in his first set at #6 singles.
Filippo Gallo won his first set at #2 singles 6-4, but was losing in the second set by the time Grace had clinched.
