SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Goshen cross country teams sent a portion of their squads to compete at the Bethel Invite at St. Patrick's County Park on Friday afternoon. The women came in second of nine teams and the men placed third of ten.
Women - 2nd of 9
Goshen was the only team to place two runners in the top six of the women's 5k race.
Kassandra Ortega led the way with a third-place finish out of 73 runners, crossing the line in 19:24.9.
Presley Allen came in sixth, coming in 20:18.6.
Britney Ortega shaved five seconds off her time from the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invite a week ago, coming in 21:20.1 and in 17th place.
Marin Kauffman Smith wasn't far behind in 19th place with a 21:22.3 time - 25 seconds better than her time from a week ago.
Citlaly Sanchez placed 33rd in 22:10.0. Making her season debut in 58th place was Izzy Langelier, sporting a time of 25:16.3.
Goshen finished in second place with 70 points, just ahead of the Notre Dame Running Club (77) and only behind Olivet Nazarene (35).
Men - 3rd of 10
The Goshen men were the only team to place three runners in the top 11. The trio was led by
Samuel Klopfenstein, who had a time of 27:37.0 and placed ninth of 89. The time was just under 20 seconds away from his personal best.
Leighton Dodt came in tenth in 27:54.8.
Isaiah Beiter was 11th and crossed the line in 28:06.3.
David Sefu was Goshen's fourth-highest finisher, posting a season-best time of 28:22.8 and coming in 17th.
Jonas Wyse completed Goshen's top five with a 29:07.8 time and just cracked the top 25 in 25th place.
Levi Friesen and
David Carbajal also had season-best times. With 72 points, Goshn was just ahead of Southwestern Michigan College (77) and beind Bethel (57) and Olivet Nazarene (69).
Goshen competes at the Great Lakes Invite on Saturday, October 25.
