Men win by one, women lose by one against Wildcats in Tennessee

Goshen completes day one of three consecutive days of action down south

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MCKENZIE, Tenn. - The Goshen tennis teams began the first of three consecutive days of tennis action down in the Memphis area on Thursday. Against Bethel (Tenn.), the Maple Leafs men won 4-3 and the women lost 3-4.

Men - Goshen 4, Bethel 3
Goshen went up 1-0 in the doubles matchups with a 6-3 win from Pedro Scattolon and Filippo Gallo at #2 doubles. After a Bethel win at #3, it came down to a narrow doubles #1 win for Bethel, as the Wildcats defeated Timo Novak and Matija Margetic 7-6(1), 6-1.

The Maple Leafs scored enough points in the singles matchups to come back and win, though, winning from #1 through #4 singles. Bruno Ferrera won 6-2, 6-2 at #4 singles, Matija Margetic won 6-1, 6-2 at #3 singles and Timo Novak got a 6-3, 6-2 win at #2 singles. Filippo Gallo had to fight a little harder at #1 singles, but he pulled through with a three-set 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 win.

Timo Novak now holds an 8-4 singles record. He started the year 6-0 before losing four straight, but he has since won his last two.

Women - Bethel 4, Goshen 3
The women's doubles #3 team of Morgan Priebe and Arianngel Mosquera won 6-2 while the #1 team lost 6-1. It came down to the #2 match, where the Wildctas prevailed 7-5 over the team of Uliana Dotsenko and Ariadna Otin O'Callaghan in 43 minutes.

Goshen's three singles wins all required a tenacious effort. Uliana Dotsenko won at #2 singles 6-3, 7-5, improving her singles record to 8-3 this season. At #3 singles, Sara Nino came out on top 7-5, 6-2. Lastly, Arianngel Mosquera came through at #6 singles with a 7-5, 1-6, [10-8].

Goshen faces Texas A&M University-Texarkana on Friday at 11:00 am EST and Christian Brothers later that day at 3:00 pm EST.
