Goshen women finish 49th in highly competitive Tier I Hoosier Classic

Kelly shines with season-best scores

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Goshen women's bowling team competed at the Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic over the weekend and came in 49th out of 65 teams in the Tier I tournament, one of the largest and most competitive events in college bowling.

The team competed in five regular games on Saturday followed by 15 baker games on Sunday. Goshen had a strong start in the regular games, with scores of 880 or higher in the first four to put them in 32nd place. With a 743 score in the fifth game, the Leafs fell to 41st place. Lily Kelley was Goshen's top performer in the regular games, beating her season-best score of 220 twice. She posted a score of 223 in the second game and 222 in the third, improving her season average by more than three pins to 173.2 pins per game. Individually, she placed 77th of 409.

Kelsey Badger finished 177th with 832 pins. Guliana Castiglione came in 197th with three of her four games over 200. Her second game score of 232 was a season-best. Kami Kimes placed 265th with consistent scores between 144 and 159. Jessica Spidell was Goshen's fifth-highest scorer, coming in 320th and averaging 152 pins over three games played. Abigail Kenestrick averaged 168 pins over two games and Bailey Friars averaged 166 over her two games.

Goshen had a strong third baker game score of 208 on Sunday, but after the first five games they slid down to 46th place. After ten games they were in 48th, and once all 15 were complete they had finished in 49th, averaging a score of 169 across the 15 baker games. The Maple Leafs finished ahead of Crossroads League opponent Mount Vernon Nazarene, as the Cougars came in 55th place. Goshen finished ahead of three schools from the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference - Lourdes, Madonna and Siena Heights.

The Savannah College Of Art And Design (SCAD) had the highest pinfall after the regular and baker games. In the match play final, #1 SCAD faced #6 Judson, with Judson winning 3-2 in a thrilling matchup.
