GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Goshen competed in day one of the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday afternoon with the men's 4x800-meter relay team in action. The team of Jordan Garlinger, Charlie Aldrich, Kevin Liddell and Bruno Kipsang came in fifth in their heat and 21st of 25 overall.

Jordan Garlinger led the Maple Leafs off as the first leg in the relay race, putting the Leafs in third with a time of 1:54.70 by the time he handed off the baton to Charlie Aldrich. Aldrich finished his portion of the race in 1:57.86 and Kevin Liddell had a similar 1:58.30 time as the third leg. Bruno Kipsang had Goshen's fastest 200 meter split in his first 200 meters of his run, coming in 25.76 seconds. He finished with a 2:01.20 time and the Leafs finished fifth in heat one with a 7:51.88 time.

With four heats in the event, the top team from each heat and the four next best times would advance to the final. Goshen had the fourth next best time after Milligan won the heat, but their spot was taken when the second head finished, with Dakota State taking second in their heat with a better time than Goshen at 7:40.06.

Six schools from the Crossroads League competed in the event and Goshen came in fifth of the six. Marian was the only Crossroads school to advance to the final. Milligan had the fastest time overall at 7:31.53.

On Friday, the Maple Leafs will be competing three times. Anthony Roberts will be in the men's mile prelims at 12:05 pm. He will be back for the 1,000-meter prelims at 4:00 pm. Then, Mercy Chebet and Stephany Claudio will run in the women's 3,000-meter prelims at 4:15 pm. Should any of them qualify for the finals, the Leafs will run on Saturday.
