Tennis teams battle hard but fall to Lawrence Tech

Dotsenko, Bodo and Novak post strong performances

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Goshen tennis teams competed at Lawrence Tech on Saturday, and though both teams had some tight matches, the Blue Devils came away with the victories. LTU won on the women's side 4-3 and 6-1 on the men's side.

Women - Goshen 3, Lawrence Tech 4
Goshen started by winning the doubles point 2-1. Uliana Dotsenko and Ariadna Otin O'Callaghan won easily in #2 doubles 6-0. Blanka Bodo and Sara Nino had a strong showing at #1 doubles, winning 6-3. All four have at least five wins in doubles matches this season.

Dotsenko also had a dominant #2 singles win, winning 6-3, 6-0. Goshen's third point came from Bodo's 7-5, 6-4 win at #1 singles. It was the fourth time this season that Bodo has won both her singles and doubles match and the sixth time for Dotsenko. Dotsenko has a 7-3 singles record so far in her freshman season. Otin O'Callaghan had a narrow loss at #4 singles, losing in three sets.

Men - Goshen 1, Lawrence Tech 6
The freshman duo of Timo Novak and Denis Stancukov won handily at #2 doubles, 6-1, but Lawrence Tech won the other two matchups to take the doubles point. Novak provided a win at #2 singles, fighting through a tough three set match but coming out on top 7-5, 1-6, 6-4. Matija Margetic and Stanculov were on the losing end of two other three-set matches.

This was Novak's fourth competition that he has won both his singles and doubles match. Novak is 7-4 in singles and 5-6 in doubles this season.

Goshen faces Bethel (Tenn.) in the Memphis area on Thursday, February 13, at 1:00 pm EST. The men will play five teams and the women four while they are on their trip.
