GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Mercy Chebet qualified for the finals in the women's 3,000 meters at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships, meaning that Goshen will be represented on the third and final day of the event on Saturday.

Stephany Claudio competed in the 3,000-meter race, though they were in different heats. The top four from each heat would automatically qualify, plus the four next fastest times. Claudio came in tenth in heat one with a 10:59.25 time. Chebet came in sixth in heat two, at a 10:19.50 time. When it was all said and done, Chebet had the third fastest time after the automatic qualifiers and earned a spot in the final. She will race at 3:00 pm on Saturday for the women's 3,000 meters final. Chebet is one of three runners from the Crossroads League in the final. Sharon Jemeli of Cumberlands ran the fastest prelim time at 10:08.33.
Anthony Roberts represented the men's team on Friday in two different races. He started in the men's mile prelim, starting off strong but finishing in 20th place with a 4:26.79 time. He came into the race ranked 19th among the competitors. Bryn Woodall from Milligan had a 4:10.44 time to lead the two heats of runners.
Later in the afternoon he competed in the 1,000 meters. He came in sixth in his heat and 16th out of 20 overall with a 2:31.63 time, not far from the school record mark of 2:29.73 set by Sam Chege in 2009. Marti Molins of Lindsey Wilson had the fastest time at 2:25.71.
