MARION, Ind. - The Goshen outdoor track and field season began this weekend, with the team hitting a number of top ten finishes at the IWU Polar Bear Classic on Friday and Saturday. Sam Sofolahan was Goshen's top finisher with a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters.
Men
Sofolahan placed fourth of 45 in the men's 100 meters with a time of 10.96 seconds.
Danial Murphy had a top ten finish in the 200 meters with a 22.77 time.
Detroit Walker was seventh in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.69 seconds and
Ty Hazen was eighth in the 400 meter hurdles at 57.96 seconds.
Evan O'Toole rounded out the top ten finishes for the men by coming in ninth in the high jump. He cleared 1.81 meters (5 feet, 11.25 inches) on his first attempt before missing his three efforts at 1.81 meters.
Women
Jaylah Leggett had a pair of sixth-place finishes for the Goshen women. In the 100 meters, she came in sixth with a 12.87 time. Then in the long jump, she reached a distance of 5.11 meters (16 feet, 9.25 inches) on her second attempt.
Mercy Chebet placed ninth in the 1500 meters, coming in just above the five-minute mark at 5:00.48. She was 11th in the 800 meters.
Kaitlyn Johnson was ninth in the women's hammer. Her third toss was her longest, going 45.71 meters (150 feet).
Gracie Stevens was seventh in the javelin. Her first attempt was her best at 27.74 meters (91 feet).
Goshen is at the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open on Saturday, March 29, at 10:00 am in Cedarville, Ohio.
