ALLEN PARK, Mich. - 12 Goshen bowlers competed at the USBC Intercollegiate Singles Sectionals at Thunderbowl Lanes on Friday. Five had season-best game scores and
Guliana Castiglione had a top 50 finish on the women's side.
Castiglione bowled a 200 score or higher in three of her six games, finishing with a 193.3 average and 47th place of 171 bowlers. She has the second-highest average on the team this season at 176.4 pins per game, only behind
Rebekah Muzyk.
Abigail Kenestrick came in 70th with a season-high 241 score in her third game of the day. She started the game with four strikes, and after four spares in the middle she bookended the game with four more strikes, not leaving any frames open.
Kami Kimes came in 102nd and had a season-high 212 score in game two with five strikes and six spares.
Jessica Spidell came in 122nd and posted a season-best score of 191 in her third game. Besides Castiglione, she was the only other Goshen bowler to not have a game under 150.
Rebekah Muzyk finished in 135th,
Samantha Bean in 157th,
Bailey Friars in 164th and
Alison Rudolph in 166th.
The men were led by
Nik Bressert's 118th place finish out of 180 competitors. Bressert improved his season-best score by a point with 235 pins in game five, with a stretch of five strikes in a row late in the game.
Brendan Riley came in 132nd and eclipsed 10,000 total points over the course of the regular games this season.
Hayden Grindle saved his best game for last, posting a 237 score in game six. This beat his season-best by nine pins. Grindle had seven consecutive strikes from the sixth frame to the end.
Blake Fisher finished 143rd with two of the six games at 200 pins or more.
The women's six individual qualifiers from this sectional that advanced to nationals were Maya Avilez (North Carolina A&T), Piper Chalmers (Mount St. Mar's University), Victorya White (North Carolina A&T), Leah Varela (Mount St. Mar's University), Karli VanDuinen (Arkansas State University) and Amanda Granata (Youngstown State University).
The five that moved on on the men's side were Andrew Allen (University of Pikeville), Colin Hunter (Bowling Green State University), Isaiah Shannon (Wright State University), Ethan VanderSlik (Davenport University) and Charlie Johnson (Davenport University).
The men's season comes to an end, with the women still to bowl in the Intercollegiate Team Sectionals on Saturday and Sunday, still at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park. Session one on Saturday will go from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm and session two from 1:45 pm - 5:30 pm. On Sunday, session three begins at 7:45 am - 11:45 am. Session four will be from 1:00 pm - 4:45 pm.
