ALLEN PARK, Mich. - The inaugural Goshen bowling season came to an end on Sunday, with the women's team wrapping up day two of the USBC Intercollegiate Team Sectionals at Thunderbowl Lanes. After earning one of the qualifying spots in the event, the Maple Leafs came in 20th of 20 after 64 baker games.

Men's and women's bowling was announced as the 15th and 16th teams at Goshen College in April 2023, with Scott Curtis named as the team's head coach. 23 bowlers competed for the Maple Leafs this season with 12 on the men's team and 11 on the women's. In their first season, the women claimed one of the 80 spots to advance to the USBC Intercollegiate Team Sectionals, ranked #78 in the USBC Team Ranking System.

The Leafs were projected to finish 18th within the Allen Park sectional. Goshen was sitting in 19th after Saturday's 32 baker games, averaging a score of 164.1 over those games. They totaled 2,671 pins in the first block of bakers and 2,581 in the second block.

On Sunday, Olivet jumped over Goshen in the third block. The Leafs averaged a score of 163.5 in the 32 Sunday baker games, with 2,671 pins in the third block and 2,560 in the fourth. The Maple Leafs had 200 pins or higher in games 3, 14, 19, 20, 44, 54 and 58. Game 19 was their highest with a score of 225 - only Saint Xavier had a higher score that game among the 19 other teams.

Goshen had a total of 10,483 pins. Robert Morris was in 19th place at 10,486 pins. The top four times from the Allen Park sectional that will advance to the Intercollegiate Team Championships are North Carolina A&T (12,719 pins), University of Pikeville (12,691 pins), Mount St. Mary's University (12,369 pins) and Saint Xavier University (12,315 pins).
