Men's 4x100-meter relay team sets school record at 120th Indiana Little State Championships

MARION, Ind. - The Goshen outdoor track and field teams competed this weekend at the 120th Indiana Little State Championships held at Indiana Wesleyan. The women finished 12th of 15 and the men came in 14th of 18.

First contested in 1905, the Indiana Intercollegiate Little State Track & Field Championship is the longest running "championship style" meet in the country.

Men - 14th of 18
The Goshen men's 4x100-meter relay team set a school record at the meet. The team of Samuel Sofolahan, Detroit Walker, Danial Murphy and Ty Hazen completed the race in 42.85 seconds, beating the previous school record from 2004. That record of 42.88 seconds was held by Daniel Constantine, Jon Cook, Louis Lissade and Jason Young. The Maple Leafs 4x100 team placed sixth of ten and earned three points.

The 4x800 relay team placed the highest for the men. Charlie Aldrich, Jordan Garlinger, Anthony Roberts and Kevin Liddell placed fourth of nine with a time of 7:50.72. The 4x400 team finished seventh of 15. Ty Hazen, Kevin Liddell, Fred Kaelo and Bryan Sixtos Armas had a final time of 3:25.76.

Detroit Walker had a seventh-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles. Also scoring for the men with eighth-place finishes were Evan O'Toole in the triple jump and Anthony Roberts in the 1500 meters. O'Toole finished in a three-way tie for seventh in the high jump, earning one point.

Women - 12th of 15
Jaylah Leggett had a runner-up performance in the women's 100 meters. Placing second of 37, her time of 12.34 seconds was the best among the Crossroads League participants. Mercy Chebet came in third among 21 finishers in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:52.06. Additionally, Caoimhe Farrell had a third-place finish in the high jump. She cleared 1.51 meters (four feet, 11.5 inches) on her first attempt but was unable to clear 1.56 meters (five feet, 1.5 inches).

The women's 4x100-meter relay squad earned two points for a seventh place finish. Farrell and Leggett were on the team along with Kayla Gibson and Grace Stevens. Lastly, Bailee Brown earned a point for the Leafs by coming in eighth of 32 in the javelin. Her second attempt of 31.71 meters (104 feet) was her best effort. Five of her six throws were over 90 feet.

Goshen is at the Don Kleinow Invitational on Thursday, April 24 and Friday, April 25 at Siena Heights University.
