Sofolahan breaks 100m record at Elaine Leigh Invite

The previous record was shattered by a tenth of a second

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Goshen outdoor track and field teams competed at the Elaine Leigh Invite at Oakland University on Saturday. Samuel Sofolahan set a school record for the Maple Leafs.

Sofolahan's record came in the prelims of the 100 meters. He needed just 10.71 seconds to cross the line, beating the old school record held by Danial Murphy by a tenth of a second. In the final, Sofolahan had another impressive time of 10.74 seconds and finished fourth of the 36-person field. Sofolahan was also on the men's 4x100-relay team with Ty Hazen, Danial Murphy and Eduardo Garcia that placed fourth of sixth.

Evan O'Toole had a third-place finish in the triple jump. His best result came on his third attempt, going 12.20 meters (40 feet, 0.5 inches). Ty Hazen came in sixth of 11 in the 400 hurdles at 57.97 seconds. In the 800 meters, Bruno Kipsang placed seventh of 45 in 1:57.56. Charlie Aldrich was ninth, Jordan Garlinger in tenth and Kevin Liddell in 13th.

For the women, Jaylah Leggett was 11th of 33 in the 200 meters and 12th of 36 in the 100-meter prelims. Stephany Claudio was 18th of 45 in the 800 meters, followed by Britney Ortega in 22nd.

Katie Dunderman came in seventh in the women's 400 hurdles in 1:24.74. Bailee Brown was eighth in the high jump at 1.45 meters (four feet, nine inches) and ninth in the triple jump at 9.36 meters (30 feet, 8.5 inches). Caroline Lamb was tenth of 20 in the discus at 32.74 meters (107 feet, five inches).

Goshen competes at the Don Kleinow Invitational at Siena Heights on April 24 and 25.
