ADRIAN, Mich. - Detroit Walker broke a school record that was held for more than 50 years at the Goshen track and field teams competed at the Don Kleinow Invitational on Thursday and Friday. The Crossroads League Outdoor Championships are next on the docket for the teams.

Men
In the 110-meter hurdle prelims, Walker won his heat to automatically qualify for the final. His prelim time of 15.04 seconds beat the school record of 15.14 seconds which was set by Willie Woods in 1974. Woods still holds one outdoor track and field record - for the long jump in 1973. Jon Cook tied his mark of 22 feet, 6.5 inches in 2004. Walker proceeded to beat his own new school record time in the final with a time of 14.98 seconds. He finished second overall.

In the 100 meters, Samuel Sofolahan had a time of 10.79 in the prelims and advanced to the final where he put up a 10.81 time. He was the highest-placing freshman in the event, coming in third overall. A trio of Maple Leafs came in the top five of the 800 meters. Jordan Garlinger came in third at 1:55.30, followed by Kevin Liddell in fourth at 1:55.45 and Bruno Kipsang in fifth at 1:56.61. All three were in the first heat out of five total. Anthony Roberts finished fourth in the 1,500 meters at 4:02.59. Jacob Friesen was sixth and Isaiah Beiter came in seventh.

Evan O'Toole jumped 6.61 meters (21 feet, 8.25 inches) in the long jump to come in fourth. Liam Shaw was fifth in the shot put at 13.20 meters (43 feet, 3.75 inches) and seventh in discus with a throw of 40.77 meters (133 feet, nine inches). Damian Goodman's 1.71 meter (five feet, 7.25 inches) result in the high jump earned him a seventh-place finish. Both the men's 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams came in fourth.

Women
The main highlight for the women was a win in the 5,000 meters from Mercy Chebet. Chebet led the 14-person field with a time of 18:19.41. The next closest finisher was nearly 30 seconds behind and the third-place finisher was over 45 seconds back.

Bailee Brown tied for second in the javelin throw with a mark of 31.86 meters (104 feet, six inches). Goshen also had a couple of third-place results in the field events. Kaitlyn Johnson did so in the hammer throw with a toss of 41.93 meters (137 feet, six inches) and Caoimhe Farrell in the women's high jump at 1.46 meters (four feet, 9.5 inches). Brown cleared the same height but needed one more attempt to do it. Brown was also sixth in the triple jump.

Jaylah Leggett had the third-fastest time in the 100-meter prelims at 12.18 seconds and finished fourth overall after the final. She came in fifth in the 200 meters at 25.92 seconds. Stephany Claudio was fourth in the 800 meters at 2:25.52 and Britney Ortega came in eighth.
