MARION, Ind. - Jaylah Leggett and
Detroit Walker broke school records and were named All-Crossroads League on the second and final day of the outdoor Crossroads League Championships on Friday. Both teams placed tenth.
Women
Jaylah Leggett had already made it through to the finals in the 100 and 200 meters after her successful preliminary runs on Thursday. In the 100 meters, she finished second overall with a time of 12.36 seconds after two gun misfires and while battling the wind. She was only two hundredths of a second away from the winner, Dylainey Floyd of Indiana Wesleyan. Leggett came into the 200 meters projected to finish seventh, but ended with her second all-conference honor of the day and a third-place finish. She finished in 24.89 seconds, which beat the previous school record of 25.01 seconds held by
Maria Maldonado since 2021. Leggett accounted for 58% of the team points for the Goshen women.
The other points for the Maple Leafs on Friday came in the field events. In the triple jump,
Bailee Brown picked up a point with an eighth-place finish and a jump of 9.65 meters (31 feet, eight inches). Lastly, Goshen scored in the women's hammer as
Kaitlyn Johnson came in eighth of 16. She saved her best throw for last, going a distance of 41.74 meters (136 feet, 11 inches) on her sixth and final attempt.
Men
The men got eight points from
Detroit Walker's runner-up finish in the 110-meter hurdles. He narrowly beat out Spencer Stout of Taylor by seven thousandths of a second to earn Goshen eight points instead of six. His time of 14.84 seconds beat out his own school record set just a week prior at the Don Kleinow Invite. While there, he beat the 1971 school record of 15.14 seconds held by Wille Woods with times of 15.04 in the prelims and 14.98 in the final.
Goshen also earned points in the 400-meter hurdles, this time from
Ty Hazen. Hazen crossed the line in 55.12 seconds and was the third-fastest freshman in the conference. He placed seventh overall and earned two points. The 4x100-meter relay team of Eduardo Garcia, Hazen, Key McCoy and
Danial Murphy placed seventh as well and crossed in 43.69 seconds.
The 4x400-meter relay team finished eighth in 3:27.75. The team was composed of
Charlie Aldrich,
Max Estep,
Jordan Garlinger and
Fred Kaelo. The men's team finished with 23 points, one away from tying Saint Francis.
Marian dominated on both sides, with their men collecting 294 points and their women with 240 points. Indiana Wesleyan was the runner-up for both.
Goshen competes at the USF Fighting Chance Invite on May 9 and 10 in Joliet, Illinois.
