GOSHEN, Ind. - The Goshen men's 4x800-meter relay team competed in the prelims at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Wednesday evening at Indiana Wesleyan University. The team of
Kevin Liddell,
Bruno Kipsang,
Charlie Aldrich and
Jordan Garlinger posted a time of 7:48.89 and placed 14th of the 30 competing teams in the event.
The rain was off and on during the day, and while it was raining heavier during the women's 4x800 race, it backed off some during the men's heats.
Kevin Liddell, on his birthday, got the race started off for the Maple Leafs as the lead runner, putting Goshen fourth in their heat as he came around his second lap in 1:56.3.
Bruno Kipsang was up next and ran a 1:59.0 and by then the Leafs were in fifth.
Charlie Aldrich maintained their position with a 1:57.4 time and
Jordan Garlinger put Goshen back in fourth with a 1:56.0 as the anchor leg.
Only nine teams would make it to the final, with the winner of each heat automatically qualifying and then the next five best times. Goshen was in heat three of four, and by the end of their race they had the seventh-best time among those that didn't win their heat, and were eliminated from contention for racing in the final on Thursday.
That wraps up the outdoor track and field season, and the 2024-25 Maple Leafs athletics season, with Goshen yet again sending distance runners to nationals and setting some new school records in the sprinting events this year. The first regular season action of the 2025-26 athletic year begins with the women's volleyball team at the Roar and Raid Invitational in Columbia, Kentucky, on August 15 and 16.
