FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Danial Murphy, Jaylah Leggett and Liam Shaw all set new Goshen school records as Maple Leafs track and field opened up for 2026 at the Mastodon Invitational hosted by Purdue Fort Wayne.

The first school record of the day came through Leggett in the women's 60m dash. Leggett lined up in heat 1 and finished in a time of 7.83 seconds, lowering her own previous mark that she set at by 0.08 seconds, a mark that she ran twice last indoor season. In the final, Leggett had a nearly identical performance, stopping the clock in a time of 7.84. Leggett finished third in the final. Later in the day, Leggett finished 6th overall in the 200m in a time of 26.73.

Murphy recorded sub-7 seconds clocking in the 60m dash on the day. In the preliminary round, he finished in a time of 6.98 seconds. A few hours later, in the final, he finished second in a time of 6.81 seconds, also lowering the school record by 0.08 seconds. This time puts Murphy 24th in the NAIA rankings this season and just 0.01 seconds off of the B qualifying standard for the NAIA Indoor National Championships.

In the field, Liam Shaw set a new record in the shot put. Shaw recorded a mark of 14.86m (forty eight feet, nine inches) in the fourth round, bettering his own mark set last year by 27cm (10.5 inches). This mark is the furthest distance recorded across both indoor and outdoor shot put in school history, bettering the outdoor mark set by Clint Bontrager in 2000 by over six inches. This throw means Shaw is ranked 42nd in the NAIA rankings.

Drew Hogan took victory in the men's mile. His time of 4:21.19 was enough to beat 11 Division I athletes. Jesse Bontrager finished 12th overall. He recorded a personal best time of 4:36.91, which saw him beat four Division I athletes.

Hogan was also a member of the distance medley relay (DMR) team alongside Max Estep (400m), Bruno Kipsang (800m), and Mathew Keitany (1200m). The team recorded a time of 10:37.53. Whilst this time is 35 seconds slower than the school record, it puts the Maple Leafs in fourth place in the NAIA rankings.

On the track, there were top eight finishes for Bruno Kipsang (800m, 1:59.35), Kamille Liddell (400m, 1:09.36) and the women's 4x400m relay (4:39.29).

In the field events, Jayden Turner (high jump, 1.90m) recorded a top eight finish.

Next Friday, the Maple Leafs travel to the Division II national champions, Grand Valley State University, for the GVSU Bill Clinger Classic.
