ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Goshen indoor track and field teams competed at the Bill Clinger Classic on Friday, hosted by Grand Valley State University.
Drew Hogan highlighted the day's action with an NAIA B standard in the men's mile.
Hogan's time of 4:10.62 in the mile is under the NAIA B standard time of 4:12.00, qualifying him for the NAIA National Championships. Hogan placed seventh out of 76 in the race. He was the only one among the top 12 finishers in the race to come from a school besides Grand Valley State - an NCAA Division II school running on their home track. Hogan's time was also just 2.17 seconds from the school record time set by
Mathew Keitany in 2024.
Danial Murphy placed 36th of 100 in the men's 200 meters with a time of 22.82 seconds, just 0.62 seconds from a school record. In the women's 200 meters,
Jaylah Leggett was just 0.06 seconds from the school record. Leggett finished the race in 26.03 seconds and finished 15th out of 86 runners.
Max Estep had a strong race in the men's 600 meters. He led a group of six Goshen runners in the event, coming in eighth of 38 with a time of 1:23.54. This time was 0.34 seconds from the school record set in 2018.
Bruno Kipsang came in tenth and
Leighton Dodt was right behind in 11th place in the event.
Duncan Kogei placed 11th of 88 in the men's 3,000 meters. His time of 8:28.58 is 3.46 seconds from the school record and 2.58 seconds from an NAIA B standard.
Liam Shaw, a week out from a school record in the shot put, had a best throw of 13.64 meters (44 feet, nine inches) this time around to place eighth of 31.
Leyna Borgmann was 17th of 41 in the women's shot put, and
Caroline Lamb had a nice day - coming in 19th in the shot put and 16th of 38 in the weight throw.
Goshen is at the Midwest Classic at Indiana Wesleyan on Saturday, February 7.
