INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Goshen women's bowling team competed at the highly competitive Hoosier Classic over the weekend in Indianapolis. After coming in 49th out of 65 teams a year ago, the Maple Leafs finished 35th of 64 teams this time around.
Across the five regular games, the Maple Leafs had scores of 861, 788, 982, 794 and 923. Their performance in the third game saw them move up 15 spots in the standings from 52nd to 37th place. By the end of the day, the Leafs were sitting in 40th place.Â
Freshman
Lexie Strong was Goshen's top bowler, placing 103rd out of 418 bowlers. Her score of 221 in game three played a significant role in Goshen's success in that game. She totaled 920 pins and had a 184.0 average, bumping her season average up to 167.6.
Rebekah Muzyk placed 192nd and had a season-high score of 232 pins in the fifth and final game. She totaled 762 pins and had a 190.5 average over four games. Goshen's remaining finishers were
Guliana Castiglione in 203rd (749 pins, 187.3 average),
Kaylee McNab in 241st (660 pins, 165.0 average),
Kami Kimes in 302nd (493 pins, 164.3 average),
Samantha Bean in 341st (351 pins, 175.5 average),
Bailey Friars in 372nd (286 pins, 143.0 average) and
Abigail Kenestrick in 417th (127 pins, 127.0 average).
On Sunday, the Leafs had a strong start in the baker games, improving their position from 40th place to 34th after the first set of five. Goshen was in 35th after the next set and finished in 35th overall once all 15 baker games were complete. From the Crossroads League, Goshen placed ahead of Huntington (50th), Grace (53rd) and Mount Vernon Nazarene (55th).
Goshen is currently ranked 72nd in the USBC rankings, however, they placed ahead of some teams at the Hoosier Classic that are ranked ahead of them. Those included Waldorf (40th in the USBC rankings), Rio Grande (43rd), Davenport (66th), Rochester Christian (28th), Alma (42nd), Culver-Stockton (37th) and Ohio State (70th).
The Maple Leafs will look to see if they qualify for the USBC ISC/ITC Sectionals, which is announced on Wednesday evening.Â
