MARION, Ind. - In seventh place after day one, the Goshen men's indoor track and field team finished day two of the Crossroads League Championships in fifth place - their highest team finish in a league meet, indoor or outdoor, since the 2008 outdoor season, where they also finished fifth. Seven men and one woman earned All-Crossroads League recognition over the course of the weekend. The women came in tenth.
Men - 57 points, 5th of 10
On day two, the men had a trio of third place finishes.
Samuel Sofolahan broke his school record yet again with a time of 6.77 seconds in the 60 meters final, earning six points for the Leafs. This was the seventh-fastest time in the event in the history of the indoor league meet.
Danial Murphy finished eighth in the final in 6.93 seconds to pick up another point. Sofolahan also had a third place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 22.24 seconds, picking up another six points. The top five finishers were all sophomores, showing what is in store for the next two years in the event.
Liam Shaw came in third of 22 in the shot put. He eclipsed 14 meters on his sixth and final throw - 14.06 meters (46 feet, 1.5 inches).
Drew Hogan just missed the podium in the mile and the 3,000 meters, but still picked up ten points for the Maple Leafs on Saturday. He was fourth of 26 in the mile with a time of 4:15.53 - 0.22 seconds from placing third. In the 3,000 meters he was fourth of 25 and had a finishing time of 8:35.20.
Duncan Kogei came in seventh in the event to pick up two more points for Goshen. He had a time of 8:48.56.
Evan O'Toole was fifth in the triple jump. His first effort was his best at 12.55 meters (41 feet, two inches). Additionally,
Bruno Kipsang earned a point for placing eighth of 24 in the 1,000 meters in 2:33.72.
Goshen was in fifth place heading into the 4x400-meter relay - just a half of a point ahead of Huntington at 55-54.5. The Leafs finished seventh and Huntington came in eighth in the race, securing Goshen's fifth place finish as a team. The Leafs finished with 57 points and Huntington had 55.5. The team of
Jacob Wetzel, Bryan Sixtos Armas,
Leighton Dodt and
Max Estep finished with a time of 3:28.90.
The men were tied for eighth a year ago with 25 points, meaning they have improved their point total by 128% since 2025.
Women - 22.5 points, 10th of 10
Jaylah Leggett scored over 60% of the women's team points. In the women's 60 meters final, she tied her school record with a time of 7.80 seconds, only behind the 7.77 seconds time from Addyson Dowler of Huntington. After scoring eight points in the 60 meters, she proceeded to place third of 24 in the 200 meters with a time of 25.78 seconds, earning another six points for the Maple Leafs.
Also scoring for Goshen was
Caoimhe Farrell in the high jump. She finished tied for fifth after clearing 1.41 meters, 1.46 meters and then 1.51 meters (four feet, 11.5 inches) all on her first attempt. She and Sophie Rupp from Grace each cleared the bar on their first go from that height but missed all three attempts at 1.56 meters, earning them 2.5 points each for their teams.
The NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships are from March 5-7 in Gainesville, Florida at Alachua County Sports & Event Center at Celebration Pointe. The men's distance medley relay team has hit the NAIA A standard and has the ninth-fastest time in the NAIA.
