FULTON, Mo. - Women's tennis secured a massive upset victory on the road at William Woods University on Friday. The women defeated the #19 team in the NAIA with a dominant 6-1 win. On the men's side, the #17 Owls defeated Goshen 5-2. The Goshen men are receiving votes in the most recent poll.
Women - Goshen 6, William Woods 1
The Goshen women won all three doubles points.
Marin Kawano and
Vishmi Serasinghe won at #1 doubles 6-4,
Maria Clara Fonte and
Blanka Bodo won at #2, 7-5, and
Ariadna Otin O'Callaghan and
Sara Nino won 6-3 at #3 doubles. Fonte is 13-3 in doubles and Bodo is 13-4 this season.
In singles,
Sara Nino lost only one game, winning at #6 singles 6-0, 6-1. Fonte and Kawano won by the same scores at #4 and #5 singles respectively, 6-2, 6-0.
Uliana Dotsenko won at #1 singles 6-3, 6-2 and
Blanka Bodo won at #2 singles 6-2, 6-3. Bodo, Fonte and Nino all have ten wins or more in singles this season.
Men - Goshen 2, William Woods 5
The men lost all three doubles matchups but had wins at #4 and #6 singles.
Bruno Ferrera won in straight sets at #6 - 6-3, 6-4.
Garrett Stoltzfus rallied after being a set down at #4 singles, coming back to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. This was the tenth singles win for the freshman Stoltzfus.
Goshen faces Missouri Baptist on Saturday at 11:00 am eastern. Their women are receiving votes and the men are ranked #13 in the NAIA coaches poll.
