SMYRNA, Tenn. - The Goshen women's bowling team came in 18th of 19 teams at the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Sectionals at the Smyrna Bowling Center in Smyrna, Tennessee. The women have qualified for a team sectional each of their first two years as a program. Goshen was 20th in their sectional a year ago.
The Maple Leafs competed in 32 baker games on Saturday followed by 32 more on Sunday. Goshen was in 14th of 19 teams after the first 16 games. Their score of 232 in game two was the highest among all 19 teams in that game. Goshen had scores of 200 or higher in three of the first 16 baker games. At the end of the day on Saturday, Goshen was in 17th place. 80 teams compete at sectionals and GC was ranked 76th in the most recent USBC rankings. They were ahead of #21 Coe College at this point.
On Sunday, GC was in 18th after 48 games. This stretch included a notable three games in a row between games 42-44 where the Leafs had a score of 200 or more in all three. Goshen stayed in the 18th position after the day had concluded through 64 baker games. GC finished with 10,907 pins over the 64 games - an average of 170.4 pins per game. They were 42 pins behind Purdue, who is ranked #52 in the USBC standings.
This ends the season for Goshen bowling. The women finished third in the Crossroads League this season, only behind Marian and Spring Arbor, and jumped two spots from their finish a year ago. The team is made up entirely of freshmen and sophomores.
