GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Drew Hogan and
Samuel Sofolahan competed for the Maple Leafs on day two of the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Hogan advanced to the men's mile final on Saturday.
Hogan was in the first of two heats in the men's mile. To qualify for the final, he would need to finish in the top three in his race to earn an automatic spot, or have one of the top four remaining times to move on. Hogan was in second, just behind Marian's Tristan Trevino at the start of the race. The leader then switched to Jared Stayte of Taylor and eventually Camden Khon of Spring Arbor. Regardless of who was in the lead, Hogan was nearly always right behind the leader the entire race. He finished in second with a time of 4:12.88, earning an automatic qualification for the final on Saturday at 12:35 pm. Five of the ten participants in the mile final are from Crossroads League schools, and all of the eligible Crossroads League participants advanced to the final. Hogan will need to place in the top eight to be an All-American.
Samuel Sofolahan was in the fourth and final heat of the 60-meter prelims. He placed third of seven in his heat with a solid time of 6.801 seconds, however, he needed a 6.74 to be one of the top eight that advanced to the final. Overall, Sofolahan finished 17th of 25.
On Saturday, Hogan competes in the men's mile final at 12:35 pm and the 3,000 meters at 3:15 pm.
Duncan Kogei competes in the 5,000-meter final at 4:20 pm and the distance medley relay team competes at 5:00 pm.
