Women's tennis makes quick work of Cougars

Goshen won 72 of 75 singles games

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - With a 7-0 win over Saint Francis that was done in 90 minutes, the Goshen women's tennis team is now 3-1 in the Crossroads League and is already tied for their most wins in a season since 2002. The Leafs still have six more regular season matches.

With the win, Goshen has won four straight against Saint Francis by a combined score of 27-1. GC clinched the doubles point in just 18 minutes once Marin Kawano and Uliana Dotsenko won 6-0 at #2 doubles and Sara Nino and Vishmi Serasinghe did the same at #3 doubles. Maria Clara Fonte and Blanka Bodo were up 3-1 in their matchup but didn't need to finish since the point was already clinched.

The Maple Leafs combined to only lose three games across all six singles matches while winning 72. Blanka Bodo, Maria Clara Fonte, Vishmi Serasinghe and Sara Nino all won with "double bagels" - 6-0, 6-0 scores. Marin Kawano won 6-1, 6-0 and Uliana Dotsenko had a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

All six of Goshen's primary players have winning singles records this season. Dotsenko is 10-8, Bodo is 14-6, Fonte is 12-7, Serasinghe is 9-5, Kawano is 11-8 and Nino is 15-4.

Thursday is the Stan King Tennis Complex Ribbon-Cutting at 3:30 pm. All are invited to attend this public event as a celebration of the rebuilt tennis complex and naming it in honor of Stan King '61. There will be a special program with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the courts (the Ruth Gunden Gymnasium is the rain location). Afterwards, there will be refreshments and a tennis intersquad scrimmage for all to enjoy.

Then on Saturday, the tennis teams will face off against Spring Arbor at 1:30 pm. The matches have been moved indoors to the Wildwood Racquet Club in Fort Wayne due to incoming weather.
