Box Score MARION, Ind. - The Goshen women's tennis team competed in the Crossroads League Championship against Marian on Friday morning on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University - the first conference tournament championship appearance in any sport for the Maple Leafs since men's tennis in 2015. While the Knights won 4-1 to earn their first ever Crossroads League tournament, the Maple Leafs may still earn an at-large spot for the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championships in Mobile, Alabama.
In the latest ITA rankings (Intercollegiate Tennis Association), Marian was ranked #11 and Goshen at #13, but the Leafs hadn't beaten the Knights since 2004.
Uliana Dotsenko and
Marin Kawano's nine-match doubles win streak came to an end at the #2 position, as the Knights duo won 6-0. Similarly,
Sara Nino and
Vishmi Serasinghe's seven-match doubles win streak ended at #3 doubles, with Marian winning 6-1 to clinch the doubles point. Marian led 5-3 in the unfinished #1 doubles matchup.
The Knights took a 2-0 lead with a straight-set 6-2, 6-2 win at #2 doubles. However, Serasinghe won by the exact same score for the Maple Leafs at #4 singles, making the score 2-1. Serasinghe did not lose to a conference opponent in singles during the conference regular season and postseason combined. She has won 13 consecutive singles matches and is 17-5 overall this season in singles.
The Knights took a 3-1 lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win at #6 singles.

Maria Clara Fonte and
Marin Kawano each won one of their first two sets and were playing in the third, however, all three would have to win in order for the Leafs to win the championship. Yasmin Imamniyazova clinched the win for Marian with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 win at #1 singles, making the final score 4-1.
Goshen is 15-7 this season and posted an 8-1 regular season Crossroads League record before defeating Grace and Indiana Wesleyan in the Crossroads League tournament.Â
The Selection Show for the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship will take place on Tuesday, April 28, at 4:00 pm eastern time on the NAIA YouTube channel. The primary criteria which will be used by the Selection Committee for at-large selection are UTR computer ratings, IT computer ratings, ARC ratings, head-to-head and record vs. top 15 in the UTR ratings.
