Box Score MOBILE, Ala. - Coming off of their first ever win in the NAIA National Championships in program history, the Goshen women's tennis team faced off against Tennessee Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon at the Mobile Tennis Center in the second round. The Maple Leafs started with a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. However, the Bulldogs, who only had one loss all year, came back and won four singles matches to win the overall match 4-1.

The defeat marks the end of a historic season for the Maple Leafs - capped off by an appearance in the Crossroads League Championship and their first appearance, and win, in the NAIA National Championship.

Goshen's point from doubles was the only point that any team scored against the top four teams in the women's bracket today. The #1, #2 and #4 teams all won by 4-0 scores. The Maple Leafs started with a 6-2 win at #1 doubles from Blanka Bodo and Maria Clara Fonte. Then, at #3 doubles, Vishmi Serasinghe and Sara Nino secured a 6-3 win to clinch the doubles point. Uliana Dotsenko and Marin Kawano led 5-4 in their match, which went unfinished after the doubles point was decided. Bodo and Fonte finished the season with 20 doubles wins, while Serasinghe and Nino had 15 each.

After the underdogs earned the first point, the Bulldogs rallied to win the next four once the teams were in singles play. Vishmi Serasinghe overcame a defeat in singles against Holy Cross, which had ended a 13-match singles win streak. She won the first set 7-5 at #4 singles, but Tennessee Wesleyan won the first set at the other five courts. The Bulldogs won in straight sets at #1, then at #2, and then again at #3 singles. Honoka Tsuji clinched the win for TWU with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at #5 singles, and the Bulldogs won 4-1.

The Bulldogs have now won 17 straight matches and will face #11 Loyola (La.) in the quarterfinal. The Maple Leafs finished the season with a 16-8 record, including an 8-1 mark in the Crossroads League in the regular season.
