GOSHEN, Ind. - GC alum Kate Bodiker has been named as Goshen's Director of Athletic Communications and Game Day Operations, effective July 1.
Bodiker will be replacing Justin DeWeese, who has served in the role since 2021. DeWeese will remain in the Recreation-Fitness Center as Assistant Professor of Kinesiology. He will be taking the position of Val Hershberger, who retired after 30 years at Goshen College.
"I am so thrilled to be in a position where I'll be able to take everything that GC has taught me, about vocation and about the wonderful people here, and use it to tell meaningful stories that help bring people together," Bodiker shared.
Bodiker is a recent 2026 graduate of GC with a Bachelor of Arts in Writing and Communication, a minor in Bible and Religion and a 4.0 GPA. In her time as a GC student, Bodiker was involved with the student newspaper, The Record, serving as a Staff Writer, News Editor, Features Editor and eventually the Executive Editor. She was a sports broadcaster with WGCS 91.1 The Globe, calling more than 50 athletic events as a play-by-play or color commentator. She wrote, filmed, and edited sports packages covering all facets of Goshen College athletics and was a public address announcer for numerous games as well. She was also involved in Campus Ministries, an orientation leader, single-handedly revitalized the yearbook after a ten year hiatus and was a TA and tutor. She has twice earned awards from the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters for Best Sports Talk Show and once for Sporting Event Broadcast.
"Kate's knowledge of Goshen athletics, combined with a clear passion for sports and media, made her stand out as someone we are excited to retain at Goshen College in a full-time role supporting athletic communications and game day operations," said associate athletic director Chad Coleman. "She distinguished herself through extensive hands-on experience in sports media  and in a variety of gameday roles while a student, which provided valuable firsthand experience and familiarity with our operations."
Originally from Berlin, Ohio, Bodiker has embodied global citizenship through her Study-Service Term in Ecuador, a Japan film trip and a literature course in London. She comes from a long line of family members that made their college experience at Goshen. Her brother, Zeke, currently plays on the men's soccer team. Her father, Scott, was the women's soccer co-head coach for three seasons and then compiled a 37-32-4 record during his four seasons as the sole head coach from 1996-1999. As a GC student, he played baseball and was a two-time NAIA All-American Honorable Mention in soccer. Her mother, Sheila Mullet, is second in the history of the women's basketball program in career steals, fourth in assists and ninth in three-point attempts.
