GOSHEN, Ind. — Jesse Songo, a freshman on the men's cross country team, has been named the Everence Student-Athlete of the Week for September 14-20!
Songo placed first at the Knight Invite, meaning he won his first ever race as a Maple Leaf with a time of 25:10.7. This is the fastest 8k time ever recorded by a freshman for the Leafs, breaking the record set back in 2013. This makes him just the sixth freshman to break the 26:00 mark in GC history. He also helped lead the Leafs to a 2nd out of 10 teams finish, which is their highest ever result at Calvin.
Way to go, Jesse!
The Everence Student-Athlete of the Week award recognizes outstanding performances by Goshen College student-athletes and is selected each week by the GC sports information office. It is sponsored by Everence, a faith-based financial services organization headquartered in Goshen.
