Alex Childers started his tenure as the skipper for the Maple Leafs in 2013 following two years as an assistant for the program. After assuming the program's reins, Childers led the Maple Leafs to successively higher win totals in each of the following four seasons. He was voted GC's coach of the year by his peers in the 2017-18 season.

As a collegiate player, Childers played at both Goshen and Olivet Nazarene University (Bourbonnais, Ill.). In 2007 he received a bachelor's in Business Management from ONU, where he also played volleyball.

Following his collegiate career, he returned to his alma mater, New Haven High School, where he spent two seasons as an assistant coach, helping the Bulldogs to a semi-state appearance.  He has worked as an instructor with Swing Kings LLC, The World Baseball Academy and The Bill Jones league as well as various coaching assignments with The Eric Wedge Camps, Notre Dame Baseball Camps, collegiate summer leagues and various other youth leagues.  He is also an active member of the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Childers lives in Albion, Indiana, with his wife, Amber, and daughter, Addison.
