GOSHEN, Ind. – The top two spots in the Maple Leaf lineup earned three points, but the Goshen College women's tennis team was unable to capitalize, falling 6-3 to visiting Anderson University Saturday afternoon.
Senior Anika Baumgartner and sophomore Noemi Salvador were "in control the whole way" according to head coach Doug Gossman as they cruised to an 8-4 victory in the top doubles position.
Both Baumgartner and Salvador also excelled in singles. Baumgartner won her second straight at No. 1 singles, dropping just three games in a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Salvador, meanwhile, won her first set 6-4, but overcame a 3-2 deficit in the second, winning four straight games to close out a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2.
In other action, the Goshen doubles teams of Maria Thomas and Joelle Friesen (No. 2) and Joanna Epp and Jessica Klink (No. 3) were in early holes before battling back to well-fought 8-5, 8-6 defeats, respectively.
The Maple Leafs (1-5) return to Crossroads League play when they host Huntington University on Tuesday.
