Women's Tennis Season Ends In Non-Conference Loss

GOSHEN, Ind. — The Goshen College women's tennis team concluded its fall season Thursday evening as the Maple Leafs dropped a 9-0 decision at the hands of visiting Anderson University.

Joelle Friesen took her match to three sets, claiming the second set 6-0 to level the individual match before losing 10-5 in the super tiebreak used to replace the third set.

"That was probably the best match Friesen has played this season," said Goshen head coach Doug Gossman. "Unfortunately it came in a match we were already trailing, but don't let that take away from her efforts."

The Maple Leafs also nearly salvaged a point at no. 1 doubles, where Friesen played with Noemi Salvador. Trailing 8-7, the Goshen duo served the 16th game of the match, where a hold would send their contest into a tiebreak. But Anderson's Ashlen Millikan and Michaela Hurd earned a break of serve to win the match 9-7 as the Ravens swept the doubles positions.

With only five players available, Goshen defaulted at no. 6 singles and no. 3 doubles.

The Maple Leafs' record falls to 0-11 in the regular season. After not qualifying for the Crossroads League tournament, Goshen will not participate in postseason play.

Goshen will begin its 2016 fall season in August with the schedule to be announced in May. For updates throughout the offseason, including updates on potential spring matches, stay tuned to GoLeafs.net.
