UPLAND, Ind. — The Goshen College men's tennis team continued its hot start Wednesday afternoon as it moved to 6-1 in conference play following an 8-1 Crossroads League win at Taylor University.
Luis Perez and Aritha Weerasinghe each cruised to singles victories, dropping only one game apiece in straight-set wins. Vasanth Palanisamy dropped only three games at no. 5 singles, while Luis Perez returned from an injury that kept him out of last weekend's ITA regional tournament to earn both singles and doubles wins.
The Maple Leafs advance their record to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in conference: Goshen still has a mathematical chance to tie for the conference title, but Marian University would win the tiebreaker by virtue of a head-to-head win on Sept. 13. With Wednesday's win, the Maple Leafs clinched a top-four finish and a Crossroads League tournament home match for the second year in a row.
Goshen figures to have a clearer picture of its place in the league entering its league finale on Sept. 29 against Grace. Before that match, however, the Maple Leafs travel to Indiana Tech for a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon. First serve is set for 2 p.m. in Fort Wayne.
More, including comments from Goshen head coach Stan King, to come when available.
