GOSHEN, Ind. — Bethel swept past Goshen in a 9-0 Crossroads League women's tennis decision Saturday morning at Goshen College.
Kendra Lozano claimed a team-high four games in her first set before dropping the second set and the match at no. 3 singles, finishing with a 6-4, 6-0 scoreline. Noemi Salvador, Joelle Friesen and Chloe Woodward all won three games each.
Salvador and Friesen combined for an 8-3 loss at no. 1 doubles against Bethel's top two players, Taylor Freedline and Caroline Boger. Chelsea Katchmazenski made her college tennis debut for the Maple Leafs at no. 5 singles.
"I saw a much better fight in our team today than I did in the season opener," said Goshen director of tennis Evan Atkinson. "We need to continue to improve our play, but I was proud of our effort but I think we get better every match. Everyone has positive qualities. We need to work on being more consistent and making more time for ourselves but we are on the right path."
Bethel is 1-2 this season and 1-1 in conference play. The Maple Leafs (0-2) return to action at 4 p.m. Tuesday with a visit to Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.
