MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — The Goshen College women's tennis team was shut out Tuesday evening as Mount Vernon Nazarene defeated the Maple Leafs at the newly re-constructed Memorial Park tennis complex.
A bright spot on the evening for Goshen came at the top spot of doubles action as Chloe Woodward and Megan Ewing posted their best performance as a duo on the season. The pair fell just short to Gabriela Reyes and Jayna Morehouse by a score of 8-6. The six games eclipsed their previous best mark by four, as they have posted two games in losses to Saint Francis and Taylor
Woodward also tabbed the top singles performance for the Leafs in her 6-1, 6-3 defeat against Reyes at no. 1 singles. Goshen's Kyra Krall was the next closest to victory in her 6-0, 6-2 loss at the no. 5 slot.
Prior to the match, both Goshen (0-8, 0-8) and MVNU (3-9, 1-8) were winless and tied for the bottom two spots in Crossroads League standings. The Cougar win now places MVNU a half-game ahead of the Maple Leafs with just one remaining match for Goshen. Indiana Wesleyan University still sits undefeated and alone atop the standings with Marian one game behind at 7-1.
More, including comments from Goshen director of tennis Evan Atkinson, to come when available.
Goshen's scheduled match against Indiana University Kokomo this Friday has been cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. This means the team will return to action Saturday against Huntington University in their final home match of the season. Play is set to begin at 11 a.m.
More, including comments from Goshen head coach Evan Atkinson, to come when available.
