WINONA LAKE, Ind. — Goshen College saw its bid for a three-match women's tennis winning streak snapped Saturday morning in a 9-0 Crossroads League defeat at the hands of Grace College.
The Maple Leafs (2-1, 1-1) participated in a doubles sweep for the third time in as many matches this season; unfortunately, this edition saw the Lancers (2-0, 2-0) win all three matches by the same 8-1 score.
Victoria Oakes posted the most impressive singles showing for Goshen, coming within a break of serve of forcing a third set at no. 1 singles against junior Carrie Copeland, before ultimately falling 6-1, 6-4.
Both returning Maple Leafs, Chloe Woodward and Megan Ewing, turned in scores that were on par with or closer than their 2017 results against Grace despite trading home-court advantage for an unfamiliar venue.
The Maple Leafs are back in action on Monday when they visit Purdue University Northwest, an NAIA Division II foe. First serve is set for 5 p.m. EDT at Dowling Park in Hammond, Indiana. The Goshen-Roosevelt match previously set for Monday will be played at Goshen on September 29.
Comments from GC director of tennis Evan Atkinson to come when available.
