FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Sarah Hinshaw won a pair of tiebreakers at no. 1 singles to get the Goshen College tennis team on the scoreboard Saturday as the Maple Leafs lost 6-1 to Saint Francis and 7-0 to Indiana Tech at Swinney Park.
The freshman won 7-2 in the first set and 7-4 in the second to claim victory over Kanye Hill, saving the Maple Leafs (0-10, 0-6 Crossroads League) from a shutout after USF (1-8, 1-6) took the doubles point.
Kyra Krall forced a third set at no. 6 singles, taking the opening stanza 6-3 before losing 6-2 in the second set and 10-3 in the match tiebreaker, and Anna Osborne added 5 games at no. 4.
Indiana Tech (3-0) took care of business in straight sets across the board, taking two of the three doubles matches 6-0 and sweeping the doubles point. In singles action, Abigail Simms and Vero Jimenez opened with wins at the top two spots before Dominique Michelet added a 6-2, 6-2 win to seal the team match.
Hannah McCoy won five games and Osborne added four for the Maple Leafs in the nightcap.
Goshen returns home to meet Huntington University in a Crossroads League match at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
